My Twit-called Life
Today is my Twitter anniversary, or twitterversary if you will. I put off social media for so long because I am a private person. Twitter, I never understood because, why would you post what you are eating for dinner or when you are next going to hang out with your bestie. The concept seemed a person closed off as myself.
The only reason I joined twitter was so I could follow some cam models and know when they were broadcasting an whatnot. All I did in the beginning was was reply to their tweets. I never imagined I would actually "join" twitter. I don't know when it happened, but I do know when I realized when I was immersed in twitter. I was watching Frozen for the first time and tweeted about. Shortly after I tweeted something along the lines of being sold on the movie five minutes in. I essentially live tweeted during the movie. I didn't catch myself until the next day. That was when I realized that twitter had me won over.
I am not mad that I post about my goings on because I get it now. Someone said, and I forget the exact phrase here, that it is a controlled openness you put up. You arent going to post every single little thing you do. Just things that you think others may find interesting. I also want to add that it is for attention. I don't mean that in a bad way, mind you. You post stuff and maybe hope others will comment or fave or retweet or something. Interact with you in some way. And it goes for all social media. That is why a we care about how many friends and followers and subscribers we have. If you don't you are lying to yourself. I know I get excited when I get a new follower, especially one I know from online (even though my last few have been some sketchy accounts.). When someone faves or RT's something of mine, I get happy. It means that someone cares about something I post. And when I get a conversation going, it is just great. And there is nothing wrong with that either. I think as humans we seek attention. We are social creatures after all (some more so than others).
I never thought I would have any followers but one year later I am sitting at almost 60. Granted I only interact with a very few of them but still. (Special shout-out to @Geniva_ for being my first follower. Granted it was so we could communicate about something off-site but you still stuck around after.)
Bottom line is, if you are thinking of joining Twitter or Social Media in general, do it. I know three people who I followed when they first made their accounts (never the first follower. One day though, one day) and it was great to see how they got on with twitter. It is also a very good way to keep in contact with others too, which goes without saying when it comes to Social Media.
